Fishing rules in Roxen (ver. 2024-11-16)

Fishing without a valid fishing license is illegal and a violation of the Fisheries Act (1993:787). Appointed fishing inspectors have the right to confiscate all equipment used and fishing without a license can lead to a police report. In the event of a violation of the fishing regulations, a control fee of SEK 800 is charged according to the Act (1981:533) on fisheries protection areas.

The Roxen Fishing Card is a Family Card and a Trolling Card valid for parents with their own children.

Rules around the term "Family card"

Family passes are valid for a maximum of two adults with their own children. A maximum of three own children per family card. A child is considered even a person who has reached the age of 16. Family cards only apply to family members who live at home and for accommodation at the same residential address. A family consists of cohabiting married or cohabiting couples or cohabiting persons who have registered their relationship and of their children, of either parent together with their children. Family also includes married and cohabiting couples without children, as well as people who have registered their relationship and who do not have children.
Fishing as a family on a fishing license only applies when the fishing license holder is present. Example: In practice, this means that children only fish freely when accompanied by one of their parents who has a valid fishing license.
Fishing area

Sport fishing is only permitted within the boundaries of the fisheries management area with a valid fishing license.
For Roxen, fishing is included in part of Motala stream near Ljungsbro, from the mouth of Roxen up to the first power plant. For boundaries, see map at www.roxen.nu

Other rules

Fishing licenses are personal and may not be transferred. Identification must be carried and presented upon request.
Fish that are caught are only for personal use and must be killed, other fish must be released again.
The following gear and fishing methods are permitted: casting rod, fishing rod, fly rod, pimpel rod, ice fishing rod (angle) and trolling.
It is only permitted to use one (1) rod per card and person except for trolling fishing where four (4) fishing lines are allowed per card and a total of maximum 6 fishing lines per boat. When fishing with ice, it is permitted to use four (4) pieces of fishing gear.
For hand gear fishing and trolling fishing as well as ice fishing and angling, only two (2) pike per fisherman per day may be kept, these must measure between 40 - 90 cm. Other caught pike must be returned (Catch & release)
A maximum of seven (7) perches per fisherman per day may be kept, other caught perches must be released.
All captured goslings must be re-released (Catch & Release) except for those individuals that are 6 kg or heavier, which must be retained and may not be re-released.
In order to arrange fishing competitions or other forms of organized fishing, a special permit is required for the respective FVO. (See contact details at www.roxen.nu)
Prohibition rules

Throughout the year, all directed recreational fishing against asp, vimma and eel is prohibited. Any fish caught must be immediately released back into the water.
Fishing for crayfish is not included in the fishing license.
Fish caught by anglers in Roxen (incl. part of Motala Ström) or in Nedre Svartån may not be used as live bait fish in other water systems.
Fishing is prohibited in all marinas, boat piers and bathing areas throughout the year and 150 meters from excellent fishing gear.
The following gear is prohibited to be used by anglers: Nets, Russians, throw nets, pike shears, roach huts, cages and jerk fishing or hooking the fish with pointed gear.
Fishing may not be conducted from bridges that are open to vehicular traffic and in the vicinity of hydroelectric plants.
Trolling and trolling are prohibited in all tributaries to Roxen, and in Svartån
