Alpine bullhead (
"Bergsimpa") Overview
Alpine bullhead - Cottus poecilopus
Belongs to the simpor family. Lives in fresh water, but can go out in brackish water.
Bergsimpan has a strong head with a large, fleshy mouth and a backwardly tapering body colored in gray-brown with darker spots. It has two dorsal fins, of which the posterior is the longest.
Population
Areas around the Baltic Sea with low salinity, such as the inner parts of the Gulf of Finland and the northernmost Gulf of Bothnia.
Bergsimpan is a demersal fish that prefers shallow water with good visibility.
Size and growth
Bergsimpan are egg-laying and playing in late winter to spring. Length up to 10.6 cm.
