Carp ("Karp") Overview


Carp - Cyprinus carpio

The carp is a freshwater carp that originates from Asia. The fish is very popular among specimen meters. It is usually green-gray or brass-colored, compactly built.


There are very many different varieties of Carp because it mutates very easily. Some variants are:
Mountain carp, Koi carp, Linear carp, Leather carp, Splendid carp, Silver carp, Soot carp, and Mirror carp.

Population

Derived from Asia and are now (as implanted) in Europe, Australia and the USA.

Size and growth

The carp eats everything from seeds, algae, insects and mussels.
It is very reproductive and the female can lay up to a million eggs per year.

Record size

Swedish record: 25.3 Kg.
