The catfish is Småland's landscape fish.
Moths occur in freshwater and brackish water, where they prefer nutrient-rich waters.
The moth lives in both stagnant and weakly running water and also visits brackish water. It is a typical demersal fish that is most active at night. It is a voracious predatory fish that likes to hunt in shallow water.
The species occurs in Götaland and Svealand, mainly in Emån's water system in eastern Småland and in Lake Båven in Södermanland. It also occurs sparingly in Möckeln in Kronoberg County and a number of smaller lakes in Småland and Södermanland.
The moth can grow up to five meters long and weigh over 180 kg (except in Sweden). Next to the European sturgeon is the Europe's largest freshwater fish, and in Sweden a moth at 129 kg caught in the river. It is a typical hot water fish playing first in the month of July.
Swedish record: 60.1 Kg.
