Kalix SFK Metträsket Räktforsen

The stretch is on the border between Kalix and Överkalix municipalities, about five kilometers upstream from Kalix, where the angler has the opportunity to catch salmon, trout, grayling and whitefish and also enjoy the beautiful nature of Norrbothnia along a pristine river.
Kalix Sportfiskeklubb is based in Kalix, a municipality at the top of the Gulf of Bothnia where the central town of Kalix is located on the banks of the Kalix river about five kilometers upstream from the river's outlet into the sea.
The club was founded in 1973 and disposes of its own fishing waters in the form of a larger and a smaller lake that contains char, trout, rainbow and grayling.
The lakes are conveniently located just north of the town.
In addition, the club has fishing rights on a 7.5 km stretch of the Kalix river, which includes Räktforsen, among other things.

Metresket:
The lake is a clear water lake with excellent water quality where the bottom consists of sand and gravel. There are also some areas with rougher rock bottoms. The fine depth of view means that Metträsket provides an opportunity for bird watching in winter. In summer, there are a number of boats for rent, including makes it possible to fish with "Långedrag", a fishing that can occasionally be very rewarding. Drag rowing with wobblers is another method, perhaps the one that gives them the greatest chance of coming into contact with the lake's big trout, fish of 2kg and more. The char can also be fooled with a wobbler and it even happens that the grayling bite. Even the fly fisherman has a lot to catch in the lake.
Fishing from the rental boats or float ring is very nice and large parts of the lake provide space for fly fishing from land. Around midsummer, the lake sand dragonfly hatches and it is a festive moment for the dry fly fisherman when the rough trout take care of the large dragonflies which in some years can appear so abundantly that the dry fly finds it difficult to assert itself among all the real insects and then it happens that you run out of fish completely . There is a smaller cabin with a fireplace that is open to the public all year round. A driveway, which is plowed during the winter, is available up to the cottage.
A car park where it is also possible to set up a caravan is 100 meters above the cabin. the road between the car park and the cabin is closed with a barrier, but it is possible to borrow a key, if you have difficulty traveling on foot due to disability or injury. In addition, there is a disabled-friendly jetty below the cabin. The club's rental boats are also located there. There are two fireplaces at the cottage and a number more scattered around the lake. In addition, there are two wooden wind shelters. The fish stock in the lake is replenished annually. In the years 83-87, approx. 100,000 char fry were released into the lake.
The fish released today consists of trout, char and rainbow trout taken from the own fish farm, in addition to grayling in the form of fry or solitary. At the northern end of the lake, there are two artificial spawning beds that provide the opportunity for self-reproduction for the char.

Permitted only for fishing with a fly rod. The lake receives continuous replenishment of the fish stock, i.a. from own cultivation. Metträsktjärn is a nice lake with beaches well suited for fly fishing and also wadeable in several places. The lake is reached via a footpath from a parking lot located after the road to Metträsket. The path is clearly marked and easy to walk. The distance to the lake is approx: 500m.

Räktforsen is the latest addition to the club's fishing waters. Since the summer of 2003, the club leases a roughly seven kilometer stretch along the Kalixälven west side of Sveaskog where the lower half is made up of the Räktforsen. The route consists of sections of rapids alternating with calm sections. It is primarily a very good sea trout water, but some salmon are also caught there. In addition, there is greyhound in ordinary extent. Räktforsen is included in the regular annual fishing license, but a separate 24-hour license is required for the stretch. There is a larger cabin that is very beautifully located at the southern end of Räktjärv, about a kilometer above the rapids next to Europaväg 10. It is not open to the public, but is available for rent from time to time.
