Solgen is a well-known fishing lake and has a good stock of mainly zander, pike and perch. There are also tench, bream, roach, roach, tench, rudd, whitefish and signal crayfish. Jig fishing for zander and perch can be very rewarding. If you want to try other methods, such as trolling or angling, pikeperch are best fished in the evenings and nights. Pimple fishing in winter can also be nice. Mellby fishing license area consists of fishing waters of 10 landowners in Mellby, the western part of Solgen. Solgen consists of several fishing license areas, the others are Eksjö fishing club, Skälsnäs and Sandshult. The area is part of Solgen's fishing area association (FVOF), which represents a total of approx. 65 landowners around the lake, the chairman of Solgen's FVOF is Gunnar Thorn-Andersen, Sandshult. In the eastern part of Solgen is Åsa fiskegård (Eksjö fiskeklubb's fishing license area), here there is a sport fishing center staffed during the summer. At Mellby bathing area there is a wind shelter, TC, canoe resting place and Solgen's boat club. Several fishing license sellers also rent out boats and accommodation. Solgen is part of Emån's catchment area, Solgenån's sub-catchment area, and is located in Eksjö municipality in the Småland highlands. Solgen is a moderately nutritious lake with an area of 22 square kilometers and a greatest depth of 20 meters, the average depth is 5.4 m, located 195 meters above sea level. The surroundings around Solgen are dominated by mixed forest and agricultural land with paddocks and fields. Solgen is designated as valuable water for nature and for fishing. Around the lake there is a rich birdlife, including lesser woodpeckers, lesser flycatchers, great loons, larks, sea eagles and ospreys. There is also a permanent population of otters. The bird tower is in Söraby and a nice hiking trail runs along the Solgenån from Värne to the bird tower. There are three nature reserves in Solgen, which protect large parts of the lake and its islands with a rich flora and fauna. Fiskvattnet is part of Solgen's fishing area association. Solgen consists of three additional fishing license areas (Eksjö fishing club, Sandshult and Skälsnäs).
