The Bureälven has its source flows in the areas south of Bastuträsk and its outlet into the sea at Bureå about 20 km south of Skellefteå. Bureälven's lower fishing protection area begins in Tjärn upstream of Mjödvattnet. On its way through the fishery conservation area, the Bureälven flows through the lakes Mjövattsträsket , Hjoggböleträsket , Falmarksträsket , Bodaträsket , Bursjön and through Bureå community on the coast.
In our waters there is one of the few stocks of zander in Norrland. In the lakes there are also plenty of pike, perch, bream and lake. The current stretches of the river offer great opportunities to fish for sea trout, trout and grayling, especially during spring and autumn.
There are crayfish in the river system. Please note that crayfish fishing is NOT included in the fishing license for the fisheries management area, but is handled by the respective village teams, who sell their fishing licenses. Crayfish fishing is conducted for 1-2 days per year. Crayfish plague is a major threat to crayfish in Sweden, it can easily spread if crayfish fishing is not handled carefully ( www.krafta.nu ).
Within the fishery conservation association, we work actively to create strong and self-reproducing strains, as part of this work, grayling, trout and salmon have been released over the years.
