Sottern is Örebro's fifth largest lake and is 2800 ha in size.
It stretches from Svennevad in the west, Kilsmo and Bystad in the north and towards Brevens Bruk in the east. The northern part of the lake is shallow, at most about four meters deep, and consists of many islands and small islets, a real archipelago. The southern part of Sottern is much deeper and has few islands.
The lake includes a 700 ha large nature reserve called "Sottern's archipelago" where special rules apply - see information on the County Administrative Board's website. Here you will find a rich wildlife with many bird species.
