The Alkvettern is part of the Bergslagskanalen which stretches from Karlskoga to Filipstad.
The lake has plenty of large pike, zander and perch. Winter fishing is popular when the ice holds.
Fine swimming beaches and various forms of accommodation are found around the lake.
