Just below the first migration barrier in the Klarälven River is the Forshagaforsen fisheries conservation area. Forshagaforsen is primarily known for its salmon and trout fishing and is visited annually by anglers from all over the world. However, there is also very good fishing for other species, both in the river and in other nearby waters.
Fishing for salmon and trout is carried out during the summer with a dispensation from the County Administrative Board, and many fish that migrate up from Lake Vänern to spawn gather in the area. But when the spring sun begins to warm frozen sport fishing fingers and the ice disappears from the river, some local fishermen start fishing for trout again. At the beginning of the year, it is mainly overwintered salmon and trout that bite, but in the spring the first silver trout are also usually caught.
Our catch statistics show that an average of one salmon or trout is caught every 3-4 fishing trips, making fishing in Forshagaforsen one of the best fishing areas in the country for these species. The majority of summer fishing is done with a fly, which is also the only permitted method in the best fishing zones. The number of fishing licenses sold per zone during the period 20th May-15th October is limited, giving anglers greater opportunities for better and more enjoyable fishing.
In addition to salmon and trout, there are very good sport fishing opportunities for other species in Forshagaforsen. Every year, several pike weighing over ten kilos are landed. Pike fishing can be done all year round, but the largest specimens are usually caught in the autumn and spring.
In late autumn and winter, many people also go hunting for the Klarälven's large eel, and eel over four kilos are not uncommon. Another fun fishing that can yield big fish during the spring is ide fishing. A simple and effective method for ide fishing is bottom fishing, and it is not impossible to catch ide over three kilos in the Forshaga rapids.
Forshagaforsens FVO is located in Klarälven downstream of the first migration barrier from Lake Vänern. The area is known for its fine fishing for salmon and trout but also offers fishing for many other species such as pike, ide and lake trout to name a few. There are a number of different fishing licenses that are valid at different times and conditions.
