Gullspångsälven.
Welcome to fish in the beautiful Gullspånsälven. Next to the power station, a salmon ladder has been built where the Gullspångsalksen go up to spawn in the fall. That staircase is upstream from the permitted fishing area.
Fishing is permitted in the Gullspångsälven from a line across the river 300 meters downstream of the outlet tunnel mouth at the power station in Gullspång to a line across the river at Kullen Lilla Årås.
Gullspångsälven's salmon (Gullspångslaxen) and trout are protected species and catching them is therefore prohibited.
Gullspångsälven is a river about 8 kilometers long that flows from lake Skagern to Lake Vänern. The Gullspångsälven forms the border between Värmland and Västra Götaland.
According to the Swedish Fisheries Agency, the red-listed fish asp spawns in Gullspångsälven. In the Gullspångsälven there is also a type of salmon, the Gullspångsälven, which only migrates between the river and Lake Vänern. What has been done up until now to preserve the unique strains of Gullspångslammon and Gullspångsrøring was not enough. That's why the project "Save Gullspångslaxen" started in April 2003.
Gullspångsälven offers very good angling for whitefish and then also id. Availability is good, which also means that you can spin fish for pike and perch from land. Between August 15 and December 31, all fishing is prohibited in Gullspångsälven. Fishing is prohibited all year round in Lilla and Stora Åråsforsarna.
After a fire in February 2019, where the association's passionate soul perished and largely all documents were destroyed, the association's activities were at a standstill. But in February 2021, some landowners with fishing rights got together to form an interim board. It was formed and the work to find out which properties had fishing rights began. Not the easiest but eventually it worked. On May 15, 2024, an extra annual general meeting was held where a board was elected which is now trying to recreate the business. We do not know when the association was formed, but the statutes we use were adopted on May 6, 1992.
Our long-term goal is to preserve the unique for the area strain of Gullspångs salmon and trout found in the Gullspångsälven. Our vision is to care for the fisheries and land, to give our and future generations an opportunity to experience the unique environment we manage.
