The beautiful Säveån flows through smiling natural areas and lovely streams, and empties into the Göta river at Gothenburg's harbour. The river offers fishing for both salmon and trout. Annual catches of salmon normally vary between 50 and 100 individuals, depending on water flow and weather conditions, and the average weight is over 5 kg. The salmon fishing is managed by Sportfiskarna.

Säveån's salmon has been judged to be one of the few remaining genuine salmon strains in the country. Säveån has also, because of this, been classified as of national interest according to the Natural Resources Act, which is why Natura 2000 areas and nature reserves have been formed.
During the seasons that Sportfishermen have allowed fishing, many salmon over 10 kg have been caught. The largest so far was taken in 2005 and weighed 17.64 kg. During breeding fishing, a male salmon of 21 kg and several salmon around 15 kg have been caught.
Depending on the flow of water, temperature, etc., the Säveå salmon normally arrive in Jonseredsvatnet at the end of May and then continuously throughout the season. The biggest salmon usually come early in the season
