Kärnsjön is one of the largest and deepest lakes in Bohuslän. The surface is 716 ha with a depth of 40 m. Kärnsjöns considerable length of 1 mil, combined with its narrow width and steep beaches, gives it a fjord-like appearance. The area is part of the Örekilsälven Natura 2000 area with rich birdlife with Pilgrimsfalk and Fiskljuse et al. Örekilsälven, which has good access to salmon and trout, flows through Kärnsjön and opens at Saltkällan in the Gullmarsfjord. The lake has good swimming and fishing possibilities as well as the possibility of hiking around the lake.

Free fishing for children and adolescents up to the age of 15.
