Free handline fishing ------------------------ Hand gear fishing is free throughout Storsjön. By hand gear is meant a rod, jig or similar gear that is equipped with a rope and a maximum of 10 hooks. In private water, hand gear fishing from land and from an anchored boat and in winter from ice is free.
Public and private water ------------------------ Storsjön consists partly of public water (the so-called Storsjöflaket), where the public by law has relatively far-reaching free fishing rights, partly of private water, the latter divided into four fisheries conservation areas, (Storsjön-Östersunds, Storsjön-Krokoms, StorsjönÅres and Storsjön-Bergs fvo).
Fishing license ------------------------ For fishing that is not covered by the free hand gear fishing, a fishing license must be issued. A common fishing license for all of Storsjön's fisheries conservation areas can be solved. Prices: SEK 70 / day, SEK 200 / week, SEK 600 / year. For fishing right holders within their own fvo SEK 50 / year and for the entire lake SEK 250 / year.
Permitted gear ------------------------ When fishing with a fishing license on private water and when fishing on public water, common gear regulations apply.
It is allowed to fish with: - Down nets, towing nets, trolling and towing with a maximum of 10 baits per boat.
- Maximum 180 meters of bottomed nets with a maximum depth of three meters.
- A bottomed longline with a maximum of 100 hooks. The hooks must not be floated.
- Maximum of six Russians or cages. (Cages also refer to tins, butts and similar tools).
- Maximum 10 stand hooks.
Other general rules
- Within Storsjön, net fishing is prohibited during the periods 15 May – 15 June and 1 December - 31 December.
- Minimum size for trout is 45 cm. Caught trout below the minimum size must be released.
- Outstanding equipment must be marked with the owner's name and address or property designation.
- Fishing is prohibited in all grayling streams during the period 15 April-1 June.
All crayfish fishing is prohibited throughout Storsjön.
Special rules within each fisheries conservation area ------------------------
Storsjön-Åre - Catch limitation of trout by trolling or trawl fishing to a maximum of two fish per day, prevails during the period from ice release until and including 15 June between Brastabron and Hallen in an imaginary line between Hallens ångbåtsbrygga and Hammarnäs ångbåtsbrygga.
- Fishing rights holders on their own parcels within the relevant area are exempt from the restriction.
Storsjön-Berg: - All fishing is prohibited throughout the Billstaån and within a radius of 300 meters from the outermost tip of the harbor pier outside the mouth of the Billstaån. All net fishing is prohibited within a radius of 300 m from the outer pier of the harbor pier outside the mouth of Billstaån and south of a line from the cottages about 500 m north of Capri to the old timber depot in Galhammar. See map point 2.
- All net fishing is prohibited outside all brook outlets within a radius of 200 m during the periods April 15 - June 15 and September 1 - October 31.
Storsjön-Krokom and Storsjön-Östersund:
- All net fishing is prohibited within an area limited by a line of the waterworks in Minnesgärde - Vallsundsbron's connection to Frösön and a line from Östersem via a line across Kycklingholmen to Frösön. See map point 1.
Storsjön-Östersund:
- All net fishing is prohibited within a radius of 200 m from the mouth of Odensalabäcken and the mouth of Vålbackån. See map point 3 and 4.
- All net fishing is prohibited outside all brook outlets within a radius of 200 m during the period 15 April - 15 June and 1 September - 31 October.
In addition to the tributaries to Storsjön:
- Prohibition to fish for trout during the period 1 September - 31 October in all flowing waters up to the first definitive migration barrier.
- All fishing is prohibited all year round in Semsån and Odensalabäcken and in all streams within Storsjön-Bergs fvo.
A printed fishing license must be carried during fishing and can be presented to supervisory staff on request.
The fisherman is obliged to inform himself of the applicable regulations that apply in each area.
Other: Where fishing takes place that deviates from the regulations of the respective fisheries conservation area, the fisheries conservation area or its representatives have the right to charge a control fee. The fee may vary depending on the violation, however, a maximum of 10% of the current price base amount.
