Tärna FVO is one of Sweden's largest fish conservation areas and was established in 1992.
Tärna FVOF works continuously to improve and manage the area. All proceeds from fishing license sales go in full to the fisheries maintenance work. In recent years, the focus has been on the availability of fish. Fishing sites and trails have been cleared and cleaned. The area has been given new signage. The maps have been updated and the website has received a facelift.
The trout stock in our waters is of great importance for our attraction. Above all, the migratory form of larger trout is one of our best and most important resources. In recent years, new fishing regulations have been introduced in many watercourses in northern Sweden, as well as in Tärna FVO, in order to regain or retain viable trout strains. They then talk about so-called "window sockets". That is, it is permissible to pick up trout between 35-45 cm and the other dimensions below or above given dimensions shall be re-placed in the watercourses. In this way, both growing trout cubs as well as larger playful trout are protected. The migratory trout, which are largely born and raised in the smaller lateral streams, want to return after their growth years in the larger lakes to their birth watercourse for (reproduction) play, during certain periods even for food searches.
